Kate Doherty

Where are you from? Originally, the UK but I've been in living in NSW/Sydney since I was about 3.

How long have you been djing?
I've been djing in the Sydney scene since 2002.

What influenced you the most to start? It was actually Swarm parties that inspired me to mix. Swarm - 61 Regent street days - was my first introduction to the techno sound. I loved the scene, the people and the music. A few years later - determined to get out and dj, I got a loan, bought dex, learnt how to mix and a year after that I was playing out and sharing tunes with the people.

What did you do before you started djing? I guess I've always been musically minded. At school, I used to play the piano/keyboard and drums. I also had this old dual-tape machine and I'd play around with the EQs and mix tapes. Then I bought myself the music2000 playstation game (hehe) and got completed hooked on layering beats and creating samples.

Which artists are you most influenced and inspired by? I'm particularly inspired by anyone that makes music - its such a great medium for expression and definitely my next goal. In terms of artists that I'm influenced by - Adam Beyer, Chris Liebing, Tomas Heckman, Christian Wunsch, Joel Mull, Johannes Heil, Par Grindvik, Trentemoller, Barem, Marc Houle, Extrawelt, DJ T, Mike Monday, Gabriel Ananda, Oliver Huntemann, Gaiser, Magda, to name a few. But mainly it's the music no matter who the artist - bouncy, stompy, bubbly, synthy, funky, fun stuff ;)

Tell us something random that not many people know about you. I'm addicted to the playstation game Guitar Hero! It's my mission to get 100% on every song!! :)
